| SHARING FAVORITE SONGS, POEMS, and STORIES : Monday 4:30 - 5:00pm Join us for an uplifting and motivating half-hour in which all participants will have the opportunity to share brief selections that have been meaningful to them. PET TALES : Wednesday 10:30 - 11:00am Share stories of your animal companions, past or present, with others who also appreciate furry, feathered, and gilled friends. REMINISCENCE : Wednesday 1:30 - 2:00pm Stroll with us down Memory Lane as we share our past experiences. Make new friends and enjoy differences as well as the similarities of your life stories. ARMCHAIR BIRD WATCHING : Thursday 9:30 - 10:00am Even if you can't get to the park or the lake to see the birds, there are many you can admire from your window. Our facilitator will help you identify the birds you see in your own backyard. EAT, DRINK, & BE MERRY : Thursday 10:30 - 11:00am If you like to talk about food almost as much as you like to eat, this group is for you! We will share stories, nutrition information, and recipes and have some mouth-watering discussions. NEEDLE ARTS : Thursday 1:00 - 1:30pm Share enjoyment of favorite hobbies such as sewing, quilting, embroidery, needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, and others. FUNNY BONES : Friday 1:00 - 1:30pm Join us for a half hour of funny stories, jokes, and riddles as we aim to prove that laughter really is the best (or at least next best!) medicine. MOVIE MADNESS : Friday 4:00 - 4:30pm If you're a fan of the silver screen and you love movie trivia, join us for film quizzes, fun critiques, and discussions about your favorite actors, movie genres, and classic quotes. BINGO : Saturday 9:00 - 9:45am or 10:00 - 10:45am Bingo? On the telephone? You bet! Join us for a fun morning. MIND MASSAGE : 7 Days a week! 12:00noon - 12:15pm An assortment of brain games, word scrambles, riddles, and other fun challenges to really get you thinking. IMPROVISATION : Monday 3:30 - 4:00pm Let's put our wits together and come up with outrageous characters, imaginative scenes, and spontaneous stories. BOGGLE : Tuesday 9:30 - 10:00am This word game is a great brain exercise and easily adapted to playing on the telephone. A to Z QUIZ TIME : Friday 2:00 - 2:30pm Another brain workout with challenging questions about geography, history, literature, and other topics. But we do give you a clue--each week all of the answers will begin with the same letter of the alphabet. MINI MYSTERIES : Sunday 2:00 - 2:30pm Put your detective skills to work and help our group of gumshoes come up with solutions to baffling whodunits WHAT'S NEW IN NEUROSCIENCE?: 1st Thursday 10:00 - 11:00am These monthly telephone broadcasts will feature host Roger Anunsen and occasional special guests including Michael Patterson, Roger's partner at mindRAMP. Discussions will focus on current research highlights from the exciting fields of neuroscience, memory, and aging. PLAY READING: Friday 11:00 - 11:45am Join our group of thespians as we read aloud pages from a variety of popular plays or listen in as an audience member. MYSTERY SPOT : Tuesday 10:00 - 11:00am For a special treat this term call in every week and listen to author Nancy Lynn Jarvis as she reads aloud her novel, Backyard Bones, a murder mystery set in Santa Cruz. READ ALOUD : Tuesday 3:00 - 4:00pm Thursday's Book Group short story selection will be read aloud in this listening-only session. BOOK GROUP : Thursday 3:00 - 3:45pm We will discuss a short story that has been read aloud on the phone on the Tuesday prior to this meeting. The last Thursday of the month we will discuss a novel, which participants will have gotten from their library or book store. POETRY : Sunday 10:00 - 10:30am Sit down with a cup of coffee or tea while reading and listening to poetry on different themes such as love, nature, firsts, etc. WRITING WORKSHOP : Sunday 3:00 - 3:45pm We will do writing exercises and share the results, read homework (optional), and do other writing as time permits. These groups are meant to offer support in a safe, nurturing environment. However, they are not intended to replace individual psychotherapy sessions. CHALLENGES of AGING : Monday 10:00 - 10:30am Discussing challenges you've encountered as you age can elicit suggestions for coping with difficult situations and bring you comfort. You may also be able to share your insights with others in similar situations and find that giving help can be as beneficial as receiving it. COPING WITH LOSS : 2nd and 4th Mondays 5:30 - 6:15 Losing someone or something you love is very painful, and it's something that almost everyone will experience at some point in their lives. Learn about the grieving process and ways of finding comfort and support. BLUES BUSTERS : Monday 2:00 - 3:00pm and Saturday 4:00 - 5:00pm Feeling depressed? Got the black dog, the miseries, or the blues? You are not alone. Hang out with folks who have been there and done that. Our role model is chicken soup, warm and nourishing. It won't hurt, and it may help. LIVING WITH VISION LOSS : Tuesday 4:00 - 4:45pm Learn about community resources and adaptive devices that can help you be independent, and share your experiences with others who are experiencing vision loss. COPING WITH ANXIETY : Wednesday 10:00 - 10:45am There's plenty of anxiety around for everyone these days, and it can take on a life of its own. To better understand the underpinnings of anxiety, and how to better cope, join in discussions lead by a facilitator. WEIGHT MANAGEMENT : Wednesday 5:00 - 5:30pm Join others in this opportunity to learn about healthy ways to achieve and maintain your weight loss goal. BIPOLAR SUPPORT : Thursday 11:00 - 11:45am If you are diagnosed with bipolar disorder, or have a friend or family member who is, then you are welcome to join this supportive group. Come share your experiences, gain resources, and learn how others are surviving and thriving with this sometimes debilitating illness. ENVIRONMENTAL SENSITIVITIES : 3rd Tuesdays 7:30 - 8:30pm If you are sensitive to fragrances, household products, pesticides, or other chemicals, or to electrical magnetic fields, we invite you to join this monthly support group. GRATITUDE : Daily 9:00 - 9:30am Begin your morning with gratitude. Join our SCWW community on the telephone seven days a week, or however often you wish, and talk about what you feel grateful for. SENIOR CENTER WITHOUT WORDS : Daily 12:30 - 1:00pm A group without discussion! Come join us for a half hour of music and do your own exercises, movements, meditations, or whatever you wish.
